What F09 actually means
The dishwasher has lost the electrical connection to its diverter valve — the part that switches water between the upper and lower spray arms — so it stops rather than carry on washing blind.
Montpellier's control board watches the diverter valve circuit, and F09 is logged when that circuit reads as open — in other words the board sends a signal and gets nothing back. Because the machine can no longer be sure which spray arm it is feeding, it halts and flashes the fault instead of running a cycle that might leave half the load dirty. On models with a display you get the code; on the simpler panels of this range it shows as blinking programme lights.
What F09 looks like on a Montpellier dishwasher

What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then back on and start a cycle — a one-off glitch will sometimes clear.
- Check both spray arms spin freely by hand and that no cutlery or a tall dish is fouling them.
- Take out and rinse the filters in the base of the tub, and clear any debris from the sump area you can reach by hand.
