Montpellier F04 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What F04 actually means

The dishwasher tried to fill but the flow meter — the little sensor that counts water going in — reported nothing arriving, so the machine stopped rather than run dry.

During the fill stage the control board opens the inlet valve and expects a steady stream of pulses from the flow meter as water passes through. On these Montpellier machines, if the tub still reads empty and no pulses are counted, the board flags F04 and halts the cycle, usually with the lights flashing or F4 on the display. It is logged as a flow meter fault, but it will show up just as readily when the water genuinely isn't getting in.

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Check the water tap feeding the dishwasher is fully open — an isolating valve under the sink knocked shut is the single most common finding.
Look at the fill hose where it runs behind or under the unit and make sure it isn't kinked or trapped, particularly if the machine has recently been pulled out.
Run a tap in the kitchen to confirm you actually have mains water pressure.
Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and restart a cycle to clear the code.
