Montpellier F06 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What F06 actually means

The dishwasher has decided the water in the tub has got too hot — or that the sensor reading that temperature can no longer be trusted — so it has abandoned the programme.

Montpellier's control board watches the tub temperature with a small sensor called an NTC thermistor. If it sees the water at around 77°C or above, or gets a reading that makes no sense, it trips the overheat fault, blinks the lights or shows the code and stops the cycle. In practice the water is often nowhere near that hot — the sensor or its plug is giving a false reading, which is why F06 tends to appear on the same machines repeatedly rather than as a one-off.

What F06 looks like on a Montpellier dishwasher

What usually causes it

The tub temperature sensor (NTC) has failed or drifted out of range
A loose or corroded plug on the sensor wiring giving a false high reading
The heater staying on when it should have switched off, genuinely overheating the water
Poor water circulation — something blocking the circulation pump, so the heated water is not being moved around the tub
Control board misreading the sensor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then back on and start a short programme — a genuine one-off overheat will often clear.
Take out and rinse the filters in the base of the tub, and clear any food debris from the sump area you can reach by hand.
Check both spray arms spin freely and their holes are not blocked with grit or bits of label.
Make sure nothing has fallen through the basket and lodged in the bottom of the tub where it could obstruct water flow.
