Montpellier F00 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What F00 actually means

The dishwasher has decided there is too much water inside it, so it has stopped the cycle to avoid a flood.

F0 is the overflow fault — the machine's anti-flood float has been lifted by more water in the base or tub than the programme should ever put there. Once that trips, the control board halts the wash and normally runs the drain pump to get rid of what it can. The manual also notes that this code is not meant to appear during a normal wash, so seeing it either means the safety device has genuinely tripped or the machine has been left in the service test routine.

What F00 looks like on a Montpellier dishwasher

What usually causes it

Too much water let in because the fill valve is not shutting off properly
A blocked or slow drain, so water builds up faster than it leaves
Excess foam from washing-up liquid or too much detergent lifting the float
A small leak inside the machine collecting in the base tray
The float or anti-flood switch itself sticking or having failed

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and see whether the code returns straight away or only part way into a cycle.
Take out the filter assembly in the base of the tub, rinse it under the tap and clear any food debris from the recess underneath.
Check the drain hose behind the machine is not kinked, crushed against a unit or pushed too far down the waste pipe.
If the sink waste or washing machine outlet shares the same trap, make sure that is running away freely.
If you have used washing-up liquid or a heavy dose of detergent, run a cycle with the correct dishwasher detergent only — foam alone can lift the float.
If you can see or hear water in the base, turn the water supply tap off until it has been looked at.
