Montpellier F01 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F01 actually means

The dishwasher thinks water is escaping where it shouldn't, so it has shut the cycle down and is trying to pump itself dry.

F1 is the leakage code. The machine senses water at full level when it shouldn't be there, runs the drain pump and circulation pump for around three minutes with the level sensing still reading full, and then locks out with the code showing. Unlike a straightforward overflow, a genuine leak fault won't clear by switching the machine off and on again — if it comes straight back, water is still being detected somewhere it shouldn't be.

What F01 looks like on a Montpellier dishwasher

What usually causes it

Water leaking from the door seal or a loose spray arm soaking the base of the machine
A drip from a hose joint, pump housing or sump seal reaching the leak detector in the base tray
Blocked filters or a blocked drain hose causing water to back up and spill over inside
Overfilling caused by a faulty water inlet valve or level sensing, which the machine reads as a leak
A failed or wet leak sensor / float in the base, reporting a leak that has already dried up

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then switch it back on and see whether the code returns immediately
Look under and around the machine and on the floor in front of it for any visible water — if there is water, leave it off
Lift out the mesh and coarse filters in the base, rinse them under the tap and refit them so they seat and lock properly
Check the drain hose behind the machine isn't kinked, crushed or pushed too far into the standpipe
Check the door seal for trapped food debris and wipe it clean, and make sure nothing tall is stopping the door closing squarely
Make sure the spray arms spin freely and nothing has been loaded so it deflects water at the door
