Montpellier F05 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What F05 actually means

The dishwasher isn't getting the water it expects, or the water it did take in has drained away again, so it stops the programme and flags F05.

Montpellier dishwashers check the level in the tub with a pressure switch and count the water going in with a flow meter. F05 is raised either when not enough water arrives in the time allowed, or when the level drops from full back to empty part-way through a wash — the machine treats both as an inadequate water supply and halts rather than run the pump dry. On the models without a digital display, the same fault shows up as all the lights flashing together.

What F05 looks like on a Montpellier dishwasher

What usually causes it

Water tap not fully open, or turned off and forgotten after other work
Fill hose kinked or crushed behind the machine, or a blocked inlet filter
Low mains water pressure, so filling takes longer than the machine allows
An upturned bowl or large pot trapping water, making the level look like it has fallen away — a one-off that clears on the next cycle
Faulty flow meter or pressure switch giving a false reading
Control board fault (the least common cause, despite often being blamed)

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Check the water tap feeding the dishwasher is open all the way, not part-turned
Pull the machine forward gently if it is freestanding and check the fill hose isn't kinked or trapped
Look for an upturned bowl, pan or tall item in the racks holding water, and reload it face-down but sloping
Clean the filters in the base of the tub and make sure the sump is clear
Turn it off at the wall for a minute, switch back on and run a short programme to see whether the fault was a one-off
