What E01 actually means
The machine can't confirm the door is shut and locked, so it won't start.
Before any wash begins, the machine locks the door and waits for confirmation that the lock has engaged. If it doesn't get that confirmation \u2014 or the door comes unlatched mid-cycle \u2014 it shows E01 and stops. Often it's the door genuinely not pushed to, but it can also be a worn or failed door lock.
What E01 looks like on a Servis washing machine
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Servis washing machine, E01 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Door not pushed firmly enough to click shut
- Washing trapped in the door seal stopping it closing
- Worn or broken door catch or handle
- Failed door interlock (the electric lock)
- Wiring or control board fault to the lock
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door, push any washing well inside the drum and clear the rubber seal, then close it firmly until you hear it click
- Check nothing is overloading the drum and pushing against the door
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme
- Look at the door catch and handle for obvious damage or play
Which Servis models show E01
E01 means the same thing on all 18 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Servis E01 myself?
There are 4 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Open the door, push any washing well inside the drum and clear the rubber seal, then close it firmly until you hear it click.
- Check nothing is overloading the drum and pushing against the door.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme.
- Look at the door catch and handle for obvious damage or play.
This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
