Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E10 actually means

The machine can't get a sensible reading from the sensor that tells it how much water is in the drum, so it has stopped.

E10 is a pressure sensor (water level sensor) fault. The control board expects a signal in a set range telling it how full the drum is; if that signal is out of range, missing or the connection to the sensor has failed, the machine halts rather than risk filling or emptying blind. Without a reliable water level reading it can't safely run a wash.

What usually causes it

  • Blocked or kinked pressure sensor hose inside the machine
  • Loose or damaged connection to the water level sensor
  • Faulty pressure sensor itself
  • Sludge or debris in the sump or pressure chamber
  • Control board fault

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and see if the code clears
  2. Clean out the pump filter at the bottom front and check the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far into the standpipe
  3. Make sure the drum isn't sitting full of water — if it is, don't start another cycle

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
