What E05 actually means
The machine can't tell how hot the water is, so it has stopped rather than heat blindly.
E05 is a fault with the wash temperature sensor (the NTC) or its wiring. The control board either gets no sensible reading from the sensor, or it runs the heater and sees the water temperature barely move — either way it stops the programme. It can also point to a heating element that isn't warming the water at all.
What usually causes it
- Faulty wash temperature sensor (NTC)
- Loose or broken wiring to the sensor
- Heating element failed, so water never warms
- Control board fault reading the sensor
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a cold, short programme — if it runs cold but fails on hot washes, that fits a heating/sensor fault.
- Clean the drain filter and check the drain hose isn't kinked, so you can rule out drainage problems confusing the picture.
