What E09 actually means
The machine has spotted that the mains electricity reaching it is outside the range it will run on, so it has stopped rather than risk damage.
Servis machines monitor incoming voltage and expect it to sit between roughly 170V and 260V. If it reads below or above that, the wash is halted and E09 is displayed. The fault can be genuine trouble with the supply to that socket, or the machine's own control board misreading the voltage.
What E09 looks like on a Servis washing machine
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Servis washing machine, E09 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
- Programme won't start
- Machine tripping the electrics
- E09 flashing on the display
- Beeping and showing E09
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A dip or surge in the household mains supply
- Extension lead, adaptor or timer plug the machine is running through
- A loose or worn socket or plug connection
- Generator or unstable rural/site supply
- Faulty control board misreading the voltage
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall, wait a minute, switch back on and try again
- Plug it directly into a wall socket rather than an extension lead, adaptor or timer
- Check whether other appliances in the house are flickering or tripping, which points at the supply rather than the machine
- Try a different wall socket on another circuit if the cable reaches safely
Which Servis models show E09
E09 means the same thing on all 3 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Common questions about Servis E09
What does E09 mean on a Servis washing machine?
The machine has spotted that the mains electricity reaching it is outside the range it will run on, so it has stopped rather than risk damage. Servis machines monitor incoming voltage and expect it to sit between roughly 170V and 260V. If it reads below or above that, the wash is halted and E09 is displayed. The fault can be genuine trouble with the supply to that socket, or the machine's own control board misreading the voltage.
Can I fix Servis E09 myself?
There are 4 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Turn the machine off at the wall, wait a minute, switch back on and try again.
- Plug it directly into a wall socket rather than an extension lead, adaptor or timer.
- Check whether other appliances in the house are flickering or tripping, which points at the supply rather than the machine.
- Try a different wall socket on another circuit if the cable reaches safely.
This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.

Tried the checks and it's still showing E09?
This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. Then it wants someone who can open it up.
