What E02 actually means
The machine hasn't taken in enough water in the time it expects, so it has stopped and shown a water supply fault.
Sharp's own documents list E02 as a "no water" error. The control board opens the inlet valve at the start of the fill and watches the water level; if the level doesn't rise as expected within the allowed time, it abandons the cycle rather than run the drum or heater dry. It's one of the four faults Sharp deliberately shows the end user on these washer dryers, alongside door lock, pump and overflow errors, because the cause is often outside the machine.
What E02 looks like on a Sharp washer dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Sharp washer dryer, E02 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill

What usually causes it
- Water tap turned off or only partly open
- Inlet hose kinked, trapped or crushed behind the machine
- Blocked filter in the inlet hose connection or a build-up of scale and grit
- Low mains water pressure, or a mains stopcock left part-closed after other work
- Faulty inlet valve or level sensing inside the machine
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the tap feeding the machine is fully open — a half-turn is often enough to trigger this.
- Look behind the machine and make sure the fill hose isn't kinked, squashed or looped tightly.
- Turn a nearby cold tap on to confirm you actually have normal mains pressure and nobody has left a stopcock closed.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and restart a cycle to clear the code.
- If you've recently moved or reconnected the machine, check the hose is on the right tap and hand-tight at both ends.
