What H04 actually means
This isn't a fault " H4 is the water hardness setting on your dishwasher, and it's showing because the machine is in the hardness adjustment mode.
On the TX3BD608, the display shows "H" followed by a number when you enter the water softener setting. The range runs from H1 to H6, and H4 is the factory default " so if you're seeing H04, the dishwasher is most likely sitting in that setting mode rather than reporting a breakdown. It is easy to trip into by accident when pressing buttons on the control panel, and we see it reported as a fault more often than it actually is one.
What H04 looks like on a Teknix dishwasher

What usually causes it
- A button press has put the machine into water hardness setting mode
- The dishwasher is showing its default hardness level of H4
- Someone has been adjusting the softener setting for local water and left the display in that mode
- The display was misread as an error code when it is a settings readout
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Use the button the manual identifies for changing and saving the hardness gear to set the level you want, then let the display return to normal
- If you would rather leave the setting alone, turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute and switch it back on " the display should come out of the setting mode
- Check your water hardness with your water supplier if you want to set the correct gear rather than staying on the H4 default
- While you are there, rinse out the filter in the base of the tub and make sure the salt reservoir cap is done up tight
