Zanussi E64 tumble dryer: what it means & what to check

What E64 actually means

The dryer has flagged a problem with the thermostat that protects the heater, so it won't heat properly until that's sorted.

On these Env06 control boards, a fault in the heater's safety thermostat circuit brings up E64. The board can no longer trust the temperature protection on the heater unit, so it either won't allow heating or stops the cycle — you'll usually notice clothes coming out damp with the drum still turning. Restricted airflow is often what pushes that thermostat to open in the first place, so poor airflow and a genuinely failed thermostat can look identical from the front.

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Clean the lint filter thoroughly — including the mesh and the recess it sits in
On a condenser model, take out and rinse the condenser unit and clear fluff from its housing
Check the vent hose on a vented model isn't kinked, crushed behind the machine or blocked at the wall outlet
Make sure the dryer isn't pushed hard against a wall and has room to breathe
Switch off at the socket for a minute, then power up and start a fresh cycle to see if the code returns
