What E65 actually means
The dryer has lost control of the fan that pushes air through the drum, so it has shut the cycle down rather than heat clothes with no airflow.
On these Zanussi dryers the fan motor is switched by a component on the main control board called a triac. E65 is set when the board asks for the fan and gets no proper response — either the switching device itself has failed open, or the motor and its wiring are not answering. Because a dryer that heats without moving air is a real overheating risk, the machine stops instead of carrying on.
What E65 looks like on a Zanussi tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Zanussi tumble dryer, E65 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- Drum not turning
- Won't spin
- Hums or buzzes but nothing moves
- Turns one way only
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A failed triac on the main control board — the most common finding on this code
- The fan motor itself worn out or seized
- A disconnected or damaged connection to the fan motor
- A wider fault on the electronic control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart — occasionally the code clears and does not return
- Clean the fluff filters and, on condenser models, rinse the condenser unit; poor airflow puts extra strain on the fan
- Check the vent hose on vented models is not crushed or kinked behind the machine

Can I fix Zanussi E65 myself?
There are 3 checks you can safely do yourself first.
- Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart — occasionally the code clears and does not return.
- Clean the fluff filters and, on condenser models, rinse the condenser unit; poor airflow puts extra strain on the fan.
- Check the vent hose on vented models is not crushed or kinked behind the machine.
