The noise and when it happens narrow it down quickly. A rhythmic knock at low speed is usually an object trapped between the inner and outer drum. A roar or grind that rises with spin speed, especially with black marks appearing on washing, is worn drum bearings — and that is the one that gets worse and eventually leaks.
The Haden fault codes that point at this
A Haden washing machine will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to making a loud noise:
- E01 — The machine hasn't taken on enough water in the time it allows, so it has stopped and flagged a fill problem.
- E03 — The machine has tried to pump the water out and hasn't emptied within the time it allows, so it has stopped with the drum still holding water.
- E04 — The machine thinks it has too much water inside, so it has stopped filling and locked out until the level reads normally again.
- E05 — The drum motor isn't running as the control board expects, so the machine has stopped rather than carry on with the wash.
- E06 — The machine has decided the water heater isn't doing its job, so it has stopped rather than carry on with a cold wash.
- E07 — The machine can't get a sensible reading from the sensor that measures the water temperature, so it stops rather than heat blindly.
- E10 — The machine isn't getting enough water in, so it has stopped and flagged E10.
- E12 — The machine has sensed more water in the drum than it should have, so it has stopped the cycle to avoid flooding.

The usual causes on a Haden washing machine
- A coin, underwire or screw trapped between the inner and outer drum
- Worn drum bearings — a grinding roar on spin, often with black or silver marks on clothes
- Transit bolts never removed after delivery, or the machine not sitting level on all four feet
- A worn shock absorber or broken suspension spring, letting the drum bang the casing

- Check the filter for coins and underwires, which is where they usually end up
