What E01 actually means

The dryer has detected the door coming open part way through the cycle, so it has stopped.

On these Beko dryers the control board watches the door switch the whole time the drum is turning. If that switch reports the door open mid-cycle, the machine halts and shows this code rather than carrying on with the heater running. Nine times out of ten it is a genuine door that has popped open on a heavy load, but a worn catch or a failing door switch gives exactly the same message even when the door looks perfectly shut.

What usually causes it

  • Door pushed open by an overfilled drum
  • Door catch or striker worn so it no longer holds firmly
  • Door not clicked fully shut before starting
  • Faulty door switch reporting 'open' while closed
  • Wiring or control board fault at the door switch circuit

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Open the door, take out some of the load if it is packed tight, and close it until you hear it click
  2. Check nothing is trapped in the door seal — a sleeve or towel edge stopping it latching
  3. Look at the catch and the plastic striker on the door for obvious wear or damage
  4. Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the cycle
  5. Watch whether it stops at the same point each time — that points to the switch rather than the load

When to call someone

This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
