What E04 actually means

The dryer has been asked to start while the door is not properly shut, so it has refused to run.

On Beko condenser dryers such as the DTGC7000W, the control checks the door switch before it will begin a cycle. If the start button is pressed while that switch is reading "door open", the machine stops and displays this code instead of starting. Most of the time the door looks closed to the eye but the catch has not engaged far enough to operate the switch.

What E04 looks like on a Beko tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Beko tumble dryer, E04 usually shows up as one or more of these:

Machine door won't open
Door won't lock or click shut
Door lock light flashing
Door stuck shut with the load inside
Won't start even with the door closed

Door pushed to rather than clicked firmly shut
Laundry caught in the door seal holding it slightly open
Worn or misaligned door catch that no longer engages
Faulty door switch reporting the door as open even when closed

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Open the door fully and push it closed until you hear it click, then press start again
Check no towels or corners of clothing are trapped in the door edge
Wipe the door seal and rim so nothing is stopping it seating properly
Turn the dryer off at the socket for a minute, switch back on and start a fresh cycle
