What E23 actually means
The fridge freezer can't get onto your home Wi-Fi ted attempt has been abandoned \u2014 it's a connection fault, not a cooling fault.
E23 comes from the appliance's network board failing its ping test, meaning it tried to reach the network and gave up rather than continuing to retry. Cooling, defrost and fan control are all handled separately, so the fridge and freezer carry on running normally. The only thing you lose is the app connection and remote monitoring.
What usually causes it
- Router out of range, or a weak signal where the appliance stands
- Wi-Fi password changed, or a new router fitted since setup
- Router temporarily down or the broadband dropped out
- Appliance sitting on a 5GHz-only network it can't see
- Loose network card connector inside the appliance (needs an engineer)
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check your broadband is working on a phone stood next to the appliance
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on, and see if the code clears
- Restart your router and give it a few minutes to come back up
- Run the Wi-Fi setup again from the appliance's menu and app, entering the current password
- If the router has been replaced, pair the appliance to the new network from scratch
