What E26 actually means

One of the UV sterilising lamps inside the fridge has failed, and the control board has noticed it.

Some Beko fridge freezers use a UVC lamp to sterilise air or a compartment, and the electronics monitor whether each lamp is working. If any one of them stops, the software flags E26. Cooling itself is not part of this fault, so the fridge and freezer normally carry on holding temperature as usual.

What E26 looks like on a Beko fridge freezer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Beko fridge freezer, E26 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not cooling
  • Freezer not freezing
  • Ice building up at the back
  • Food going off in the fridge
  • Running constantly and never getting cold
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A UVC lamp that has reached the end of its life
  • Failed lamp driver or ballast supplying the lamp
  • Loose or corroded connection at the lamp
  • Control board no longer reading the lamp's feedback correctly

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on — if the code was a one-off read it may clear
  2. Check the fridge and freezer are still holding temperature, so you know food is safe while you arrange a repair

Which Beko models show E26

E26 means the same thing on all 10 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
