What E02 actually means
The temperature sensor on the fridge side's cooling coil (evaporator) has stopped giving a sensible reading, so the control board has flagged a fault.
Beko fridge freezers carry a small sensor clipped to the fresh food evaporator, and the board uses it to decide when that coil needs defrosting. When the reading goes out of range \u2014 usually an open or short circuit \u2014 the board flags E2/E02 and falls back on running the compressor to a fixed pattern using the air sensor instead. The appliance normally keeps cooling, which is why plenty of people ignore it, but defrost control is no longer accurate and ice can gradually build on the fridge coil, giving poor cooling, a warm fridge, or water in the salad drawer.
What usually causes it
- The evaporator sensor's plug has worked loose or corroded at the connector
- A broken or chafed sensor wire, often where it passes into the cabinet
- The sensor itself has failed and reads open circuit
- Damp or ice around the connector after a heavy frost build-up
- Less often, a fault on the main control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on \u2014 a genuine one-off glitch will clear and not return
- Check the fridge is cooling normally and that food is still cold; move anything at risk to another appliance
- Make sure the vents inside the fridge are not blocked by packed-in food, and that the door is closing fully on its seal
- Have a look for frost or ice building up on the back wall of the fridge compartment, which is worth mentioning when you book the repair
