What E03 actually means

The sensor that measures the air temperature inside the fridge (fresh food) section has failed, so the control board can no longer tell how cold that compartment is.

Beko's control board constantly reads a small temperature probe in the fridge compartment's air flow. If that reading goes open or short circuit, the board flags E3 (shown as E03 on some displays) and the code flashes, often alternating with the set temperature. The fridge doesn't stop dead — it falls back on a timed running pattern — so you'll usually see the fridge side either too warm or over-cooling and freezing salad and milk.

What usually causes it

  • Faulty fresh food compartment air sensor (the usual finding)
  • A damaged or chafed sensor wire, or a loose plug at the sensor pins
  • Corrosion or moisture in the sensor connector after heavy icing or a defrost leak
  • Fault in the main control board's sensor circuit (less common)

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute and back on — a one-off glitch will sometimes clear.
  2. Check the fridge door is closing and sealing properly, as constant warm air makes odd temperature behaviour worse.
  3. Make sure food or packaging isn't blocking the air vents at the back of the fridge compartment.
  4. Use a fridge thermometer to see whether the fridge side is actually too warm or freezing food, and move anything at risk into the freezer.

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
