What E05 actually means
The fridge freezer has lost a reliable reading from the sensor that measures the room conditions around it — the ambient temperature/humidity sensor.
Beko fridge freezers use an ambient sensor (and on some models a humidity sensor) to judge the temperature and moisture of the room, and adjust how hard the compressor works and how often it defrosts. When the control board sees a reading outside the expected range, or no reading at all from that sensor or its wiring, it flags E05. Cooling normally carries on, but the appliance is running on default settings rather than adapting to the room, so you may notice more condensation, extra frost, or a compressor that runs longer than usual.
What usually causes it
- A loose or damaged plug on the ambient/humidity sensor wiring
- The sensor itself having failed or gone out of range
- Moisture or condensation getting into the sensor connection
- A fault on the main control board reading the sensor
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the appliance off at the socket for a minute, then back on — if the reading was a one-off glitch the code may clear
- Keep the door closed as much as possible and don't put warm food in while the fault is showing, as the appliance can't compensate for the room conditions
- Make sure the fridge freezer isn't jammed hard against a wall or radiator, and that air can move around the back and sides
- Check the room itself isn't unusually hot, cold or damp (garages and outbuildings are a common trigger)
