What E11 actually means
The control board has lost a sensible reading from the temperature sensor on the evaporator (the cooling coil) inside the MultiZone "joker" compartment \u2014 the drawer or section you can switch between fridge and freezer settings.
Beko's MultiZone compartment has its own cooling coil with a sensor fitted to it, used to decide when that section needs defrosting and how hard to cool. When the board reads that sensor as open circuit or short circuit, it flags E11 and can no longer control the compartment properly. Cooling normally continues on a crude timed pattern rather than stopping altogether, so the compartment may run too warm, too cold, or gradually ice up.
What usually causes it
- The evaporator sensor itself has failed or drifted out of range
- A loose, corroded or damaged plug on the sensor wiring behind the compartment
- Chafed or broken sensor cable where it runs out of the compartment
- Moisture ingress in the sensor connector after heavy icing or a defrost fault
- Less often, a fault on the main control board's sensor input
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute and back on \u2014 the code clears itself once the fault is gone, so if the sensor was only reading oddly it may not return
- Check nothing is jammed against the back wall of the MultiZone drawer and that the compartment isn't heavily iced up
- Make sure the door or drawer is closing fully so the section isn't fighting warm air
- Note the actual temperature the compartment is holding and how food in it is behaving \u2014 useful information for the engineer
