What E16 actually means
The fan that circulates cold air around the fridge (fresh food) section isn't reporting back properly, so the control board has flagged it as faulty.
On Beko frost-free fridge freezers, a small fan pushes chilled air from the evaporator into the fresh food compartment. That fan sends a speed signal back to the control board, and if the board doesn't get the expected feedback \u2014 fan stalled, blocked, or wiring/electronics gone \u2014 it displays E16. The freezer side often carries on working while the fridge slowly warms, so people notice milk going off before they notice the code.
What usually causes it
- Fan blade jammed by a build-up of ice around the fan housing
- Food or packaging pushed against the air outlet at the back of the fridge, stalling the fan
- Worn fan motor no longer running or no longer reporting its speed
- Loose or damaged fan wiring connection
- Control board not reading the fan feedback signal
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Move food away from the vents at the back and top of the fridge compartment so air can circulate
- Check the door is closing fully and the seal isn't held open by an over-packed shelf or a trapped item
- Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then back on \u2014 if the fault has cleared itself the code should not return
- If you can see frost or ice around the air outlet, empty the appliance and let it defrost fully with the doors open, then restart it
- Avoid putting hot food straight in and keep door openings brief while you wait for an engineer
