Beko E39 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What E39 actually means

The washer dryer has measured too high a temperature in the drying air where it leaves the condenser, and has cut the drying cycle short to protect itself.

During the drying part of the cycle, a temperature sensor (NTC) at the condenser outlet watches the air coming back out of the condenser. If that air gets hotter than the control board will allow, the machine shuts the heaters down and flags the fault. Typically the owner sees the programme end early with the load still damp, and the door glass and the area around it noticeably hot.

What usually causes it

Blocked or clogged condenser restricting airflow
The process fan not moving enough air, or not running at all

A faulty condenser outlet temperature sensor giving a false high reading

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and see whether the fault returns on a fresh drying cycle
Clean out the filter and clear any lint or fluff you can reach
Make sure the drying load is not overstuffed — a packed drum stops air passing through the laundry
Check the machine has space around it and isn't pushed hard against a wall or trapped in a tight cupboard, so it can breathe
Check the drain hose is not kinked or trapped behind the machine
