What E01 actually means

The sensor that tells the machine how hot the water is has stopped giving a sensible reading, so the machine won't heat.

E01 points to the wash thermistor — the NTC temperature sensor sitting in the tub — reading either open circuit or short circuit. Because the control board can't tell what temperature the water is at, it won't switch the heater on, and the cycle either runs cold or drags on far longer than it should while the machine waits for a temperature it will never see. On Beko washer dryers the code is stored and shown in service mode, so on models without a digital display you may see it as a pattern of spin-speed lights rather than the letters E01.

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then back on and restart a cycle — an occasional one-off reading can clear
Note whether the drum water stays cold and the programme time keeps climbing; that confirms the picture and is useful information for the engineer
