What E05 actually means

The machine can't drain — the drain pump either isn't turning or isn't shifting any water, so the cycle stops with the drum still full.

E05 points squarely at the drain pump: either the pump is blocked, its rotor is jammed and won't spin, or the circuit on the control board that drives it has failed. Typical symptoms are a programme that drags on far longer than it should, water left sitting in the drum and no spin at the end. The machine holds the cycle rather than trying to spin a full drum, which is why the door stays locked while there's water in it.

What E05 looks like on a Beko washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Beko washer dryer, E05 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Machine not draining
  • Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A blocked pump filter or pump impeller — coins, hair grips, buttons, fluff or a stray sock
  • Kinked, blocked or badly fitted drain hose, or a blocked standpipe/sink trap
  • Pump motor seized or burnt out so the rotor won't turn
  • Failed pump drive circuit on the main control board
  • Low mains supply voltage, which the fault specifically tells engineers to check — the pump won't run properly on it

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then try a drain or spin programme on its own — occasionally it clears.
  2. Open the flap at the bottom front, drain the water off into a bowl and clean the pump filter thoroughly, including feeling in the housing for coins or clips (machine switched off and unplugged first).
  3. Check the drain hose along its whole run for kinks, crushing behind the machine, or being pushed too far down the standpipe.
  4. Pour a jug of water down the standpipe or check the sink trap the hose connects to — if it backs up, the blockage is in your plumbing, not the machine.
  5. Bail out the drum before moving the machine so you don't flood the floor.

E05 means the same thing on all 14 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

What does E05 mean on a Beko washer dryer?

Can I fix Beko E05 myself?

There are 5 checks you can safely do yourself first.

This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
