Beko E12 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What E12 actually means

The machine has detected more water inside it than it should ever hold, so it has switched to its overflow protection: it pumps out and refuses to start a programme.

Beko calls this the Aquastop level — the water level sensor is reading a height above the safe maximum. The control board treats that as a potential flood, so the drain pump runs as soon as you switch the machine on and no cycle will begin. On this washer dryer the giveaway is exactly that: it drains every time it's powered up, and the programme never gets going.

What usually causes it

A water inlet valve that keeps letting water in even when the machine is off
A faulty or misreading water level sensor (pressure switch)
The pressure sensor hose blocked, split or pushed off
Loose or unseated plugs between the Aquastop sensor and the control board — the fault starts here
Heavy foaming from too much detergent, which the sensor reads as a high water level

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on — if it was a one-off foam or sensor glitch it may clear
Turn the water tap off and see whether the drum keeps filling; if it does, leave the tap off and book a repair
Check you're not overdosing detergent, especially with a non-bio or hand-wash liquid, as excess foam can trip this
Clean the pump filter and make sure the drain hose isn't kinked or pushed too far down the standpipe
