What E18 actually means

The washing has bunched up on one side of the drum, so the machine gave up trying to spin and stopped the programme.

Before every spin, the machine tries to spread the load evenly around the drum. If it cannot balance it, it slows down, redistributes and tries again — which is why the cycle time creeps up — and if it still cannot get the load safe to spin at speed, it ends the programme and shows E18. Beko designed it that way deliberately: spinning a heavily one-sided load would hammer the bearings and let the drum bang against the cabinet.

What E18 looks like on a Beko washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Beko washer dryer, E18 usually shows up as one or more of these:

Machine door won't open
Door won't lock or click shut
Door lock light flashing
Door stuck shut with the load inside

What usually causes it

One heavy item on its own, such as a towelling dressing gown, a duvet or a pair of jeans
Bedding or a duvet cover that has ballooned and trapped everything else inside it
Too small a load, so there is nothing to counterbalance it
An overloaded drum that cannot tumble the washing freely
The machine not standing level, or standing on a soft or springy floor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Open the door, pull the washing apart and spread it evenly around the drum, then run a rinse and spin
Take one bulky item out and wash it with two or three smaller items rather than on its own
Shake out any duvet cover or pillowcase that other items have got inside
Check the machine is not rocking — push a top corner gently; if it moves, the feet need levelling
Turn it off at the socket for a minute to clear the code before restarting
