Beko E04 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What E04 actually means

The machine has spotted that water is coming in when it shouldn't be — the fill valve is stuck open, or the part of the control board that switches it has failed.

Beko's own service notes describe E04 as a valve triac short circuit or diode fault, or the machine taking in water continuously. The board switches the inlet valve on and off electronically; if that switch fails closed, water keeps running into the drum even though nothing has asked for it. The machine halts the programme rather than let the tub keep filling, and you'll often find the door still locked with a lot of water inside.

What E04 looks like on a Beko washer dryer

What usually causes it

The electronic switch on the main control board that operates the fill valve has failed and is stuck on
A fill valve held open by grit or scale, so water trickles in continuously
Water siphoning back into the drum through a badly fitted drain hose, which the machine reads as unwanted filling
A damaged or damp valve wiring connection at the board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the water tap behind the machine off — that stops any further filling while you sort out a repair
Switch off at the wall for a minute and back on; if the fault is a genuine board failure it will come straight back
Check the drain hose is not pushed too far down the standpipe or lying flat on the floor, as that can let water siphon back into the drum
