Beko E03 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What E03 actually means

The machine has worked out that the water heater is staying switched on when it should be off, so it has halted the cycle.

On these Beko washer dryers the control board switches the wash heater on and off to hold the programme temperature. E03 is logged when the board sees the heater still energised after it has commanded it off — in other words the heater is stuck live rather than failed dead (a dead element gives E02 instead). The machine stops because uncontrolled heating means the wash water keeps climbing with nothing to limit it.

What E03 looks like on a Beko washer dryer

What usually causes it

The heater switching circuit on the main control board has failed shorted, leaving the element permanently powered
A damaged or shorted heater wiring connection at the board
Heat or arcing damage around the heater connector on the control board
A faulty temperature sensor giving the board the wrong picture of what the heater is doing

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall socket for a minute, then switch back on and try a cold programme — if E03 returns straight away the fault is live and needs an engineer
Note whether the wash water and the door glass are getting unusually hot, and whether clothes come out hotter than the programme should give; that information helps the engineer
Stop putting washing in it until it has been looked at
