Blomberg E02 washing machine: what it means & what to check

What E02 actually means

The machine can't get a signal through its heating element, so it has stopped trying to heat the water.

The control board checks the heater circuit before it switches the element on. On E02 that circuit reads as broken — an open circuit — so the board disables heating altogether. On these Blomberg machines the programme then runs cold and finishes early, before the point where the water would normally be heated up.

What E02 looks like on a Blomberg washing machine

Door won't lock or click shut
Door lock light flashing
Door stuck shut with the load inside

What usually causes it

A burnt-out or failed heating element (the usual finding)
A loose or corroded connection at the heater terminals
A damaged wire between the control board and the element
A fault on the control board itself, which is much less common

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and start a short wash — a one-off glitch will clear, a genuine heater fault will come straight back.
Feel the door glass and the water going to drain near the end of a 40°C or 60°C wash. If it is stone cold, the code is telling you the truth and the element is the likely culprit.
