What F05 actually means

The machine has failed to get the water out, and it has flagged the drain pump as the problem.

F05 comes up when the control board asks the drain pump to empty the drum and the water doesn't go. Typically the cycle drags on far longer than it should, the drum stays full and the spin never happens, because the machine won't spin on standing water. This code points at the pump itself being blocked or seized, or the switching circuit on the control board that drives it having failed.

What F05 looks like on a Blomberg washing machine

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Blomberg washing machine, F05 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine not draining
  • Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water
  • Standing water in the bottom
  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill
  • Stops right at the start of the cycle

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A blockage in the pump or its filter cocoin, hair grip or button jammed in the impeller
  • Kinked, trapped or blocked drain hose, or a blocked standpipe/sink trap
  • Drain pump motor seized or worn out
  • Failed pump drive circuit on the main control board (the pump gets no power even though it is sound)

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a drain or spin cycle co it sometimes clears a one-off glitch
  2. Open the small flap at the bottom front, put a shallow tray and towels down and empty the drain filter, then clear out any fluff, coins or debris and refit it hand-tight
  3. Check the drain hose behind the machine is not kinked, crushed against the wall or pushed too far down into the standpipe
  4. If the hose goes into a sink waste, check that waste isn't blocked by running the tap

Which Blomberg models show F05

F05 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Blomberg F05 myself?

There are 4 checks you can safely do yourself first.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and try a drain or spin cycle co it sometimes clears a one-off glitch.
  2. Open the small flap at the bottom front, put a shallow tray and towels down and empty the drain filter, then clear out any fluff, coins or debris and refit it hand-tight.
  3. Check the drain hose behind the machine is not kinked, crushed against the wall or pushed too far down into the standpipe.
  4. If the hose goes into a sink waste, check that waste isn't blocked by running the tap.

This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
