What E05 actually means

The washing machine can't get a sensible reading from the sensor that measures water temperature, so it stops rather than heat blindly.

E05 on a Candy washing machine points at the NTC temperature probe — the small sensor that tells the control board how hot the water in the tub is. The board has seen the reading go either dead open or short (in other words, an impossible value), which can be the sensor itself or the wiring and plug running back to the board. Because the machine has no safe way of knowing when the water has reached the set temperature, it abandons the cycle, usually early on while it should be heating.

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme — a one-off glitch will sometimes clear.
Try a cold wash programme. If it runs through fine, that supports the temperature sensor as the problem and tells the engineer something useful.
