Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E62 actually means

The drum motor is spinning faster than the machine asked it to, so the control board shuts everything down as a safety measure.

The control board sets a target speed for the motor and reads back the actual speed from a small sensor on the motor. When the reading comes back around 300rpm above what was asked for, the machine flags E62 and stops rather than let the drum run away with itself. In ElectriQ's own service information the root cause is given as a failed SCR (the power switching device) on the main PCB, which lets through more power to the motor than it should.

What E62 looks like on a ElectriQ tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a ElectriQ tumble dryer, E62 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Drum not turning
  • Won't spin
  • Hums or buzzes but nothing moves
  • Turns one way only
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening
  • Programme won't start

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A damaged SCR on the main control board — the most common cause by far
  • A faulty motor speed sensor giving a false high reading
  • Loose or corroded connections at the motor speed sensor
  • A failing motor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch it back on and start a short cycle — if the fault was a one-off glitch it will clear
  2. If it comes back, stop using the machine and book an engineer; there is nothing else here an owner can safely check

Which ElectriQ models show E62

E62 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
