What E36 actually means
The machine has run the water heater for ten minutes and the water barely got any warmer, so it has stopped and flagged a heating fault.
During the wash, the control board switches the heating element on and watches the water temperature through the NTC temperature sensor. If the temperature rises by less than three degrees after ten minutes of continuous heating, the board decides something in the heating circuit is wrong and shows E36. What E36 looks like on a ElectriQ tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a ElectriQ tumble dryer, E36 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine not draining
- Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
- Stops mid-cycle full of water
- Standing water in the bottom

What usually causes it
- A loose or corroded plug on the heating element, temperature sensor or control board
- A burnt-out or open-circuit heating element
- A failed NTC temperature sensor giving a false reading
- Damaged wiring in the harness between the board and the heater
- A faulty main control board, which is the least common of the four
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute and back on — this will not clear E36, but it rules out a one-off glitch before you call anyone.
- Note whether the drum still fills, turns and drains normally, and whether the water is cold at the end of the cycle. That information saves the engineer time.
