What E11 actually means
The fridge side is running warmer than it should, and the appliance is flagging it on the display.
On these no-frost Electrolux fridge freezers the control board watches the sensor in the cooler (fridge) compartment. E11 is its high-temperature warning for that compartment \above the set value it cannot pull down. The compressor and fan usually carry on running, so food in the freezer often stays frozen while the fridge section sits too warm.
What E11 looks like on a Electrolux fridge freezer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Electrolux fridge freezer, E11 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Fridge freezer door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- Not filling with water
- No water going in
- Takes for ever to fill
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A door left ajar or a worn door seal letting warm air in
- Air vents inside the fridge blocked by packed-in food or shopping bags
- A large load of warm food or a recent long door opening while filling the fridge
- Blocked airflow from the freezer side, so cold air is not reaching the fridge compartment
- A faulty compartment temperature sensor or fan reporting the fridge as too warm
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check both doors close fully and the seals are clean and not sticky or torn
- Move food away from the vents at the back and sides inside the fridge so air can circulate
- Make sure the temperature setting hasn't been knocked to a warmer value
- Give it a few hours after a big shop or a long door opening \u2014 the alarm can clear on its own once it recovers
- Switch off at the wall for a minute, then back on, to see if the warning returns
Which Electrolux models show E11
E11 means the same thing on this model. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
