What F07 actually means
The control board has decided the freezer side isn't cooling as it should, and it's flagging the freezing system rather than a simple sensor reading.
On these AKO-controlled Electrolux fridge freezers, the board watches how the freezer evaporator temperature behaves once the compressor runs. If it never pulls down the way it should within the expected period, it raises the freezer fault alarm rather than carrying on as normal. The fridge side often keeps working, which is why people only notice when food in the freezer starts softening.
What usually causes it
- Freezer heavily iced up, so cold air can't circulate
- Faulty freezer evaporator sensor giving the board the wrong picture
- Evaporator fan not turning in the freezer compartment
- Refrigerant or sealed-system fault, so the evaporator never gets properly cold
- Control board misreading the sensor circuit
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Check the freezer door is closing fully and the seal isn't folded over or blocked by a drawer or packet
- Look for a thick build-up of ice on the back wall of the freezer — if there is, empty it and defrost it fully with the appliance switched off at the wall
- Make sure vents inside the freezer aren't blocked with packed food or bags
- Turn it off at the wall for a minute and switch it back on to see if the alarm clears once temperatures are back in range
- Check it isn't in an unusually hot or unventilated spot with the rear pushed hard against a wall
