What E43 actually means
The dryer can't confirm the door is properly locked, so it shuts the cycle down.
The control board watches a signal back from the door interlock to confirm the door is latched and locked before it will run. On E43 that signal doesn't match what the board expects, so it stops the cycle rather than heat and tumble with a door it can't verify. In practice the dryer will usually stop dead and refuse to restart.
What usually causes it
- Faulty door interlock/lock assembly
- Damaged or loose wiring to the door lock
- Door not closing fully onto the catch
- Faulty main electronic control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open and close the door firmly and check nothing (a stray sock, lint build-up on the catch) is stopping it seating properly.
- Check the door isn't fouling on a loose seal or overloaded laundry.
- Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try again — occasionally the alarm clears if it was a one-off.
When to call someone
This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.
Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
