What E45 actually means
The dryer can't confirm the door is properly shut, so it stops the cycle.
The control board watches the door closure sensor in the interlock. If it doesn't get a clear "door closed" signal, it halts the programme rather than tumbling with a door it can't verify. Typically you press start, the drum does nothing or stops shortly after, and E45 appears.
What E45 looks like on a Electrolux tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Electrolux tumble dryer, E45 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Machine door won't open
- Door won't lock or click shut
- Door lock light flashing
- Door stuck shut with the load inside
- Won't start even with the door closed
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
- Lights flashing and nothing happening
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- Faulty door interlock or latch switch \u2014 by far the most common
- Door not quite catching because of a worn or misaligned catch
- Damaged or loose wiring between the interlock and the control board
- Faulty control board (much less common)
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door and close it again firmly, listening for the catch to click.
- Check nothing is trapped in the doorway \u2014 a sleeve, a corner of a duvet or fluff build-up on the catch.
- Wipe the door seal and catch area clean.
- Switch the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try a cycle again.
