Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E60 actually means

The dryer has stopped because something is wrong with the heating side of the machine, so it can't get the drum warm enough to dry the load.

E60 is the customer-visible member of Electrolux's E6 family of faults, all of which relate to the heating phase. The control board expects the air temperature to rise in a certain way once heating starts, and when the readings don't match what it expects it shuts the heating down and shows the code. In service mode the same fault often shows more precisely as E61, E62, E66, E68 or E69, which is how an engineer narrows it down.

What usually causes it

  • Blocked filters or a clogged condenser/heat exchanger restricting airflow
  • Faulty heating element
  • NTC temperature sensor reading incorrectly
  • Damaged wiring or a poor connection in the heating circuit
  • Failed control board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Clean the door filter and the second fluff filter thoroughly — rinse under a tap and dry before refitting
  2. On heat pump models, open the lower flap and clean the condenser filter/heat exchanger face of lint
  3. Check the water container is empty and pushed fully home
  4. Make sure the dryer isn't in a cupboard or tight space with no air to draw on
  5. Switch off at the wall for a minute, then power up and start a fresh cycle to see if the code returns

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
