Electrolux E53 tumble dryer: what it means & what to check

What E53 actually means

The dryer's control board can no longer tell whether it is feeding power to the drum motor properly, so it has stopped the cycle.

On these Electrolux (and AEG/Zanussi) dryers the main board switches the motor through a component called a triac, and it monitors that switching with a small sensing circuit. E53 means that sensing circuit itself has failed, so the board has lost confidence in its own motor control and cuts the programme rather than run blind. There is one cause for this code: a faulty electronic board.

What E53 looks like on a Electrolux tumble dryer

Failed motor sensing circuit on the main control board
Board damage after an earlier motor or capacitor fault (often seen alongside E51 or E52)
Power surge or spike having damaged the board's switching section

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
