What E97 actually means

The programme you've selected doesn't exist in the machine's internal programme data, so the control board refuses to run anything.

At switch-on the main board reads the selector table to see which programme has been chosen, then looks that programme up in its cycle table. On E97 the reference is there but the matching cycle data isn't, so the board has no instructions to run and blocks the machine. It's a software/configuration fault on the control side, not a mechanical one — you'll see the code and the machine will sit there, and the buzzer may beep in short bursts as this is one of the alarms Electrolux deliberately shows the owner rather than hiding.

What E97 looks like on a Electrolux washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Electrolux washer dryer, E97 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening
  • Programme won't start
  • Machine tripping the electrics
  • E97 flashing on the display
  • Beeping and showing E97

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Corrupted or partly unreadable programme data in the control board's memory
  • The wrong configuration file loaded into the board — common after a board swap or a software update
  • A control board fitted that isn't configured for this exact model or programme range
  • A genuine failure of the main board's memory

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Switch the machine off at the wall, leave it a minute, then power it back up — an occasional read glitch clears on a restart
  2. Cancel or reset the current cycle, then select a different programme and see whether the machine will start

Which Electrolux models show E97

E97 means the same thing on all 3 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
