Electrolux F96 microwave: what it means & what to check

What F96 actually means

The appliance's temperature sensor is giving a reading the control board doesn't believe, so it has flagged a sensor fault.

F96 is logged when the NTC temperature sensor reports a value outside the range the control expects — in other words, the reading is nonsense rather than merely high. On the user interface you may see it as F196, where the added digit points to the board that raised it (the oven power board). Because the control no longer has a trustworthy temperature reading, it cannot regulate heating properly and will flag or curtail the cycle.
