What E09 actually means

The automatic ice maker's motor isn't turning as the control board expects, so the fridge has flagged a fault with the ice-making mechanism rather than with the cooling itself.

The fault E9 on these side-by-side models as an icematic motor error — the control board drives the ice maker's motor to rotate the tray or eject the cubes, and it isn't getting the movement or feedback it wants back. Cooling normally carries on as usual; what stops is ice production, and you'll often notice the bin going empty before you notice the code. Because the fault sits in the ice maker assembly rather than the sealed system, the food side of the appliance is unaffected.

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Take the ice bin out, tip out any ice that has frozen into a solid lump, and check nothing is wedged in the opening the cubes drop through
Make sure the bin is pushed fully back into position — if it isn't seated properly the mechanism can't turn freely
Check the freezer door is closing fully and no drawer or package is holding it ajar, as repeated warm air causes the ice to clump
Switch off at the socket for a minute and back on; if the jam has cleared, the code may not return
If the model has a water supply, check the feed hose behind the fridge isn't kinked
