Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What F09 actually means

The machine has stopped because the mains voltage reaching it is outside the range it will run on /

The control board monitors the incoming supply while the drum motor is running. If the voltage strays too high or too low — Hisense's own checks look for anything above roughly 300V against a normal working range of about 187–264V — the board drops out the relay and flags the fault rather than risk the inverter and motor. It retries after about 30 seconds, and only locks out with an alarm if the fault repeats ten times in a row during a cycle.

What usually causes it

 • A genuine problem with the mains supply at the socket or in the house wiring
 • Running the machine through an extension lead, adaptor or a travel/site transformer
 • Voltage dips caused by other heavy appliances on the same circuit
 • A faulty control/inverter board misreading the incoming voltage
 • Loose or damaged mains lead or plug connection

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

 1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme.
 2. Plug it straight into a wall socket — no extension leads, adaptors or multi-way blocks.
 3. Try a different wall socket on another circuit if one is within reach of the hoses.
 4. Note whether lights dim or other appliances misbehave at the same time, and whether the fault comes back at a particular point in the cycle — useful for whoever attends.

When to call someone

This sometimes clears with the checks above. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
