What F13 actually means
The machine can't confirm the door is properly locked shut, so it won't start the wash.
Before filling with water, the washer locks the door and waits for confirmation that the lock has engaged. If it doesn't get that signal — because the door isn't fully shut or the lock itself has failed — it stops and shows F13. It's a safety interlock, so the machine will refuse to run until the fault clears.
What usually causes it
- Door not pushed fully closed, or laundry trapped in the seal
- Worn or misaligned door catch so it isn't seating properly
- Failed door lock (interlock) assembly
- Loose or broken wiring to the door lock
- Fault on the main control board
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Open the door, check nothing is caught in the rubber seal, and close it firmly until you hear it click
- Take out a little washing if the drum is overfilled and the door is being pushed open
- Check the door isn't dropped or catching on the frame as it closes
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart the programme
