What F23 actually means
The washing machine's control electronics have reported a fault and stopped the cycle.
F23 is grouped with Hisense's electronic module faults, which can also be triggered by too much foam or an over-high water level confusing the machine's sensors. The control board can't confirm things are as they should be, so it halts the programme rather than carrying on. Sometimes it's a one-off glitch that clears after a full power-off; if it comes back it needs looking at.
What usually causes it
- Too much detergent creating excessive foam
- A one-off electronic glitch in the control board
- Water level sensing fault or overfilling
- A failed control module or its wiring connections
- Damp getting into the electronics after a leak
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute or two, then switch back on and try a short cycle
- If there's a lot of foam in the drum, run a rinse-and-spin to clear it out
- Use less detergent next time, and the right type for your machine
- Check the drain hose isn't kinked and clean the pump filter at the bottom front
