What F98 actually means
The machine's own electronics have thrown a fault and stopped the wash.
Hisense group all codes between F04 and F98 together as an electronic module fault. It means the control board has spotted something it can't make sense of \u2014 either a fault on the board itself or a signal from a component that isn't reading as expected \u2014 so it halts the programme rather than carrying on.
What usually causes it
- A one-off glitch in the control board after a power interruption
- A failed component sending a bad signal back to the board (motor, heater, sensor)
- Damp or corrosion on the electronics
- A genuine failure of the main control board
- Wiring connection loose inside the machine
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the programme dial to Off for a few seconds, then switch the machine off at the wall for a minute and restart it \u2014 a single glitch will often clear
- Make sure the door is properly shut and the drawer is pushed fully home before restarting
- If the drum is full of water, clean the pump filter at the bottom front to let it drain before you call anyone
