Hoover E15 error — tumble dryer

The dryer has stopped because the heating circuit isn't behaving as the control board expects — on condenser models that's the heater relay, on vented models it's the front thermal cut-out having tripped.

Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E15 actually means

The dryer has stopped because the heating circuit isn't behaving as the control board expects — on condenser models that's the heater relay, on vented models it's the front thermal cut-out having tripped.

The control board switches the heater on and off through a relay and watches for the expected response. If the relay stays stuck closed ("glued") or, on vented machines, the front thermal overload cut-out has opened, the board shuts the cycle down and shows E15 — often with all the lights flashing together. It's a heat-related safety stop, so it won't let the programme carry on.

What usually causes it

  • Heater relay on the control board stuck closed
  • Front thermal overload cut-out tripped on vented models, usually after restricted airflow
  • Blocked fluff filter or clogged condenser causing overheating
  • Faulty heater element or its wiring
  • Failed power/programme board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then power it back up and see if the code returns
  2. Clean the fluff filter thoroughly, including the mesh
  3. On condenser models, remove and rinse the condenser and clear any fluff from its housing
  4. Make sure the machine has clear air around it and, on vented models, that the hose isn't kinked, crushed or blocked and the outside vent flap moves freely
  5. Empty the water container

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
